Large Christian the 8th champagne flutes

Price: 1,500.- DKK per item

Item number: 575178

Description: Height 17.5 cm.

These glasses are unusually large and do not appear in any Danish glass catalogues. Other european glassworks describe oversized champagne glasses as glasses for ziska. Ziska is a kind of "day after" drink with sugar, baking soda, salt and bobles.

One glass is in perfect condition, the other two have glass sickness.

Christian d. 8 was produced at the larger Danish glassworks, Holmegaard, Kastrup and Fyens Glasværk from the middle of the 1800s until the 1940s, where it was taken out of production. It's also made in a smooth version, called Berlinois. This glass has also been manufactured at Holmegaard, Kastrup and Fyens Glasværk.

Christian d. 8 is one of the largest Danish glassware lines - it contains 18 different sizes, from large porter glass to rare snaps flutes.
Today, it is impossible to tell the different glassworks' glass from each other.

It is named after the last monarch of Denmark, Christian d. 8, who ruled from 1839 to 1848, when Denmark passed from an absolute power to being a democracy.
